The Medieval Seamstress began years ago as an idea I had
to make costumes for friends and others, or even sell things I had made.
With the help from my uncle who set up the web domain, the website finally
got launched in August 2006. My background is in history, but I have
always loved costumes, and combined the two passions when I started making
historic costumes for Medieval/Renaissance Re-enactment. I have over
11 years sewing experience and have a passion for creating costumes and
unique items.
My costume background began when I was younger and watched my mom. She
did a lot of sewing for us when were younger. I soon learned how to
make small items in Home-economics class. I seriously began making
costumes in college when I converted some old dresses I had into Renaissance
styled costumes. I then began volunteering with the East Carolina
University theatre costume shop where I learned many sewing/costuming
techniques as well as gained an enormous amount of experience working with a
large costume shop. I was a volunteer for a year and half before I was
offered a summer internship as a Costume Intern for the Summer Theatre.
I have a Bachelor's degree in History from East Carolina University, with a
concentration in European history and a minor in Public History. From
going to a few Renaissance Faires when I was in high school, I got hooked on
the historic costumes, specifically Medieval and Renaissance. I am
still considering graduate school, but I haven't decided yet if I should go
for Museum Studies, which was my original plan, or go back for a second
degree in Costume Design/Construction or even Interior Design.
Currently I work retail and sew projects as a side job, but I would love to be able to do it full time. If you have any questions, comments or want a unique Costume/garb made, let me know. I can work with you on a design and create a one-of-a-kind look for any Faire, Festival, LARP, SCA, Convention, Wedding, Party, etc....
If there is anything you would want created that you don't
see here, please
contact me. I've worked with multiple clients to create one of a
kind designs. Or
email me with any other questions or concerns.
Thank you for stopping by!
